Grave preparation
For health and safety reasons and to avoid mistakes, all grave digging is undertaken by our nominated grave diggers.
Grave Digging
The grave will be excavated between 4 and 36 hours before the funeral, depending on weather and will be approximately 150mm (6") longer and wider than the coffin.
The grave will not be left unattended when you have left the site; it will be backfilled within two hours of the funeral having ended leaving the grave slightly mounded with the turf on top of the mound.
Grave Maintenance
Periodically graves will settle and extra soil will be added by the gravedigger to avoid a sunken appearance. We will also remove floral tributes from new graves one week after the funeral.
Grave Locations
The next available grave positions are marked on site by stakes (stakes for reserved plots are coloured). When a grave is allocated, we will define the location of the grave by the Area Name (e.g. Larch Glade) and the Plot Reference (e.g. M33); we also provide the measurements from the head of the grave to the nearest three permanent ground markers (e.g. C1 = 21.5m; D1 = 32.3m; D3 = 37.2m). At any time in the future, one can simply use two long tape measures to confirm the triangulation measurements from the permanent ground markers to the head of the grave. If there is any doubt over grave location you should contact NW.
