Where?
We have selected six exceptionally beautiful natural burial grounds around the UK
Scotland: Borders , Highlands and Aberdeenshire
Wales: The Vale of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire
England: Henley-on-Thames
These natural burial grounds are wonderful, wild and natural places where the use of the land for burials is complementary to the traditional use of the land as pasture, grassland and woodland. Proper landscapes, not artificial landscaping.
The land used for burials will always be part of the natural landscape, preserved for future generations to enjoy...
The concept behind Native Woodland sites is essentially very simple - we select sites because they have something special about them ? outstanding settings with scenic views of beautiful countryside. The sites themselves, more often than not, play an important and historic part of the landscape. This being so, our main objective is for the change of use to have as little impact on the land as is practically possible. Ideally, we would like the changes to be imperceptible.
We invite partnership with Wildlife Trusts and work with consultant ecologists, who assess the ecology of the site and advise us on how best to minimise the impact of our proposals. We also obtain their guidance on how to tailor the future management and maintenance of the land to achieve wildlife conservation objectives.
If there is not already a natural burial site near you, please contact us, and we will approach your local wildlife/forest trust, country estates and your local authority to see whether we can jointly create such an amenity. Our criteria for the selection of further sites are detailed in our future sites section.
